HEALTHY FOODS TO HELP BEAT SICKNESS

In my last article, healthy foods that help manage stress, we established that food has a surprisingly enormous impact on our bodies and therefore our wellness. This means that what we eat influences our health and so there are actually foods we can eat to help manage our immunity and therefore beat sickness. Fortunately we are moving into more warm weather but if you are still finding yourself catching the nasty winter colds, hopefully incorporating the following foods into your diet helps.

Pro-biotics are actually a bacteria and before you say "ew gross", it's actually really beneficial for you and can be found in high number in certain types of yoghurts. There is evidence that shows pro-biotics can reduce the duration of a cold or flu as well as reduce the severity of symptoms so try and incorporate them into your diet.

The amazing thing about kiwi fruit is that it actually contains such high amounts of vitamin C that one kiwi fruit a day provides you with your daily needs. Vitamin C is of course incredible for protecting the body's cells from damage, maintain healthy skin sells and therefore boosting immunity.

Brazil nuts are super charged with a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the cells from damage called selenium. Making brazil nuts a great immune boosting food with only two brazil nuts required to reach your daily needs of selenium.

Carrots contain high amounts of vitamin A, an essential vitamin which keeps the skin cells healthy. Considering our skin is the "first line of defence" so to say when it comes to warding off nasty bugs, snacking on carrots can provide all your daily needs of this important vitamin.

So the underlying message in all of this is eat well and you will stay healthy. Food is such an important part of our life, so choose carefully what you choose to nourish your body.
