WHY I DON'T COUNT CALORIES

Let me start off by explaining what sparked my inspiration to write this article before we get into why I don't count calories. I am asked so shockingly often about calories; whether is be people on my cooking channel asking how many calories are in certain dishes I make, people who have bought my books asking how many calories are in the suggested meals or even just random questions about if I count calories and asking the best way to do it.

My answer is NO I do not count calories..like AT ALL! If anything I count nutrition and if I don't think I have gotten enough for the day..I eat MORE! I think if you're eating fruits, vegetable, whole grains and lean proteins then calories are so pointless as they don't give an indication of anything.

What I don't like about counting calories is that it restricts what you can eat, this isn't the case for everyone who counts calories but I find it to happen much too often. There's the type of calorie counter who doesn't eat a typically healthy diet but looks at calories resulting in restriction on healthy foods in order to make up for the calories in the junk foods they eat. You can't cut out healthy food in order to spare calories for junk food! If you don't think this happens, BELIEVE ME it shockingly does and way too often that it has pushed me to write this article.

Not all calories are the same; 100 calories from an apple doesn't compare to the 100 calories from half a chocolate bar because the apple provides sustainable energy while the chocolate will give you an instant energy hit resulting in an energy dip shortly after. Our bodies handle calories very differently depending on where they are coming from.

After an hour of eating a 150 calorie packet of chips you will find yourself much more hungry than if you had eaten a grilled chicken salad with the same amount of calories. This proves that calories have no bearing on whether a food is going to sustain you or not. You can eat more and feel fuller if you eat fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates in comparison to saturated fats and carbohydrates that come from refined sugar.

Back to how calories restrict what you eat; if you have had your daily calorie allowance but are still starving then you probably won't go over the allowance and will in result starve yourself. I could do a whole separate article on why starving yourself is absolutely terrible but I went into it a little bit in my newest book, 10 Tips To Tackle Temptation.

ALL ABOUT: COCONUT OIL AND BUTTER

So there's a lot of mystery surrounding coconut oil; what it is, the benefits, how it compares to other oils and so on. I thought that I would try and address everything about coconut oil so that if you're not completely sure what to think of it then this could help.

10 TIPS TO TACKLE TEMPTATION {NEW BOOK}

Temptation. It’s something that confronts us in our daily life and it’s crucial to know how to manage properly. How do you say no to that extra slice of birthday cake? How do you resist those doughnuts being passed around the lunch table? I have compiled ten of my favourite tips for saying no to unnecessary treats so that you can tackle temptation once and for all and turned it into a book.

The idea for this book came from my personal struggles in the past where I was addicted to junk food and constantly succumbing to any foods that tempted me. I have gotten to the point where I don't WANT McDonald's and I don't NEED chocolate-I am in control of my food and cravings. I sat down and starting thinking about how I achieved this, and these are the ten biggest tips I think helped me get to the point I am at now where I can control myself (believe it or not, I wasn't even tempted to eat the cupcake you see me holding on the cover of the book).

So if you are ready to tackle temptation and say goodbye to junk food forever then buy the guide! I truly believe that these tips will help and read the testimonials from other girls who have tried previous books and found great results.

SUPER FOOD: LEMONS

So if you weren't aware, lemon is actually a superfood! It's crazy to think that something I eat almost every single day is actually considered food that's super. I'm really glad though because I do eat such vast quantities of these magical things!

What are Lemons?
Okay so this one is pretty obvious because unlike most other super-foods we have had a look at, this is something we use on a regular basis and don't even have to venture into a health food store to get! So lemon is a citrus fruit that has benefits not only in it's flesh and juice but also the rind!

What are the benefits?
* Lowers blood pressure
* Aids in weight loss
* Improves digestion
* Relieves heartburn
* Improves cholesterol levels
* Assists immune system
* Prevents or treats cold and flu
* Helps ease and heal a sore throat

What does it taste like? How do you eat it?

So lemon is obviously really citrus-y and very comparable to limes and grapefruits. You can consume lemon in many different ways but one of my favourites and the most pure form is lemon water; simply add a few wedges of lemon to your glass of water.

Is it worth it?
Considering lemons are so incredibly cheap, they are definitely worth it. You can usually get deals at supermarkets like 3 for $2 but if you go to a farmers market you can get a whole bag full of 10 for under $5.

ALL ABOUT: COCONUT WATER

I really wanted to talk all about my latest addiction, coconut water! I find it to be the most delicious drink treat when I feel like something a bit more than water as it's really sweet and yummy but also quite good for you. So if you have no idea what I'm talking about, coconut water is the liquid found inside a young coconut and is of course completely natural. Most coconut water companies don't add anything into the water during the packaging process so it's left in it's natural state with no artificial additives or sweeteners. Most flavoured kinds use natural fruit extracts.
