ALL ABOUT: COCONUT OIL AND BUTTER

So there's a lot of mystery surrounding coconut oil; what it is, the benefits, how it compares to other oils and so on. I thought that I would try and address everything about coconut oil so that if you're not completely sure what to think of it then this could help.

Let's start off with the biggest misconception about coconut oil, that is it a saturated fat and therefore not good for you which is completely false. Coconut oil contains a short term medium-chain saturated fatty acids (MCFA's) which is a "healthy" form of saturated fat, in comparison to trans fats anyway. While trans fats can be linked with depression, heart problems and increase cholesterol levels; MCFA's are metabolized by our livers and immediately converted into energy that fuels the brain and muscle function rather than being stored as fats.

The amazing thing about coconut oil is that it has actually been linked with weight loss as a 2009 study looked at the weight loss link between women's consumption of coconut oil and found that it reduced abdominal obesity. The recommended daily intake for coconut oil is anywhere between 1-4 teaspoons so don't be shy with coconut oil and eat it everyday.

Coconut oil actually supports immunity because it's made up of healthy fats such as ; lauric, caprylic and capric acid which have antiviral properties to boost the immune system. It's also really easy to digest and protects the body from insulin resistance.

So coconut oil can be used for a variety of things, other than beauty uses coconut oil can be used in baking, cooking, frying, seasoning, drizzling on things or just eating it by itself. It's said to be great for cooking in high temperatures because as a medium-chain saturated fatty acid, it gives a higher smoking temperature than most polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils. If all that sounds confusing then think about it this way; olive oil will oxidize at a high temperature and create free radicals while coconut oil at the same high temperature would remain perfectly fine.

Overall, I think that coconut oil is definitely an amazing product that can used in many circumstances and have many benefits when consumed. I think that's about it that I'm going to be covering in this article all about coconut oil but if you have any more questions then let me know in a comment or you can email me at mail@jordysfitness.com.
